11:33 am - Keeping Promises
This weekend I was in Sun Valley performing at a really sweet lady's funeral; my aunt's grandmother named Ruth Purdy. The reason why is kind of complicated.
Ten years ago, I played "Amazing Grace" on my violin at my great-grandfather's funeral, and I was only 13 years old. This lady heard me, and thought that I was a professional or something, and made me promise during the reception that I would play for hers someday as well. Being kind of naive, I agreed that I would, but I stopped seriously playing when I was 17.
Even though I haven't really ever stopped playing, I usually am only asked to perform at say another family's funeral, or other major family events, and between performances I may not touch my violin for several months, but every time that I saw Ruth, she always reminded me of that promise, and this weekend I was able to keep it.
I must admit that I was kind of rusty when I played, but I think it went well. More than 150 people were there at the funeral and they thought that I did a good job, but more interestingly was what Ruth told my aunt Ruthie (different person) right before Ruth died. Her pastor told her that she would not be able to hear me play, but she responded, "Yes, I'll be right there as well." The pastor only said this right before I went on stage, but I thought to myself how much faith this person must have had before she died, knowing that there was something to look forward to after this life is over. To me, it made the lyrics of the song much more meaningful to me when I played.
In the end, it was nice for me to fulfil a promise that I made when I was merely 13 years old, but I'm glad that I did. It reminded me to continue to do things not because they are meaningful to ourselves, but because the things we do in this life inspire others to do great things too.

04:01 pm - Semester Review
So, another semester has come and passed, and I'm still feeling a bit disgruntled by law school. Not only is it not what I expected it to be, but I keep feeling as if I'm putting in a lot of this work for nothing. Even though I did well at McNichols and all, I didn't do as well as I should have grade wise. I haven't felt like I've fallen this flat on my face since I was in junior high.
But, that aside, I still kind of wish that i had gotten my masters in poli-sci first before comming here, but the big question would have been what I would have done after getting it; either go back to law school and be where I am now, or go off and get the Ph.D. Either way, I'm still kind of confused on where I want my life to go right now.
Other than my usual ranting, I'm doing quite well mentally and physically. Jenni signed me up for dance lessons (Gasp! The No-Dancing Ban might be lifted!) and I'm just trying to keep up with all of this work that I have to do.
Jenni's doing well; she just got promoted and she's working in an office instead of at the cashier's line, so that's a good move for her.

10:28 pm - 2L Update
Well, everyone, I appologize for not writing on my blog for some time, but I've been really swamped. That said, let me get into a bit of what's been going on:
First, I got third place in a speaking competition here at the school. I feel really good about it because it reminded me of debate, and how much I miss doing it. Perhaps litigation is the direction I was destined to go.
Second, wedding plans are comming together, with Jenni doing most of the work. All I really do is give my inputs on some matters that she thinks is absolutely neccesary to get my opinion on.
Finally, I'm really looking forward to thanksgiving break. I'm going to Disneyland, and it will be nice to see the 'rents and stuff for the first time in months.
That's all for now!

12:53 pm - 2L Fun under the Sun
It's been about a month since I started, and let me say that the second year definitely sucks worse than the first year. There's a lot more homework to do, and you have to apply for jobs, and make good impressions, and network and all of that other shitty stuff. But on the plus side, I'm trying out for the trial team, which has been a lot of fun. 24 people tried out, they only take the top 4. We'll see how I did in the preliminary rounds because they will be posting the semi-finalists here soon.

06:03 pm - ...Another year at LTW
This year at LTW was actually a lot better than the one last year. I didn't feel as if the higher-ups in the fraternity are as hypicritical as they have been in years past, and I felt as if a lot of progress was made, especially with the new alcohol awareness program that I'm required to do as a condition of my scholarship. It teaches kids that it's OK to drink, but to be aware of why you are drinking, and the positive and negative that can happen while consuming alcohol. I really like this approach because it's realisitc. No one can expect a college student to completely abstain from alcohol, and teaching only abstinence on any subject is ridiculous; it only makes the "forbidden fruit" of whatever you're advocating abstaining from seem that much more aluring. So, this program essentially says in a nutshell, "If you're going to drink, be responsible. Drinking in excess is not only dangerous, it might not be what you were orignally planning for in the first place."
Well said.
The only snag about the whole deal was that I had to rent a car to get to Muncie, Indiana from Indianapolis because my shuttle to get me from the airport to Ball State left without me. My flight was delayed in Denver because of some wicked thunderstorms, and I didn't get into Indiana until 1:45 AM, when I was supposed to originally get there at 9:30 PM or so on Thursday. Good times, though, the rental car is being paid for by the fraternity, so even though I might be out a little bit right now, it will be comming back to me here soon.
Hope everyone's summer is going well, and enjoy the rest of the summer!

07:07 pm - July Third!!!
After two weeks of her being gone in Moscow, and me working countless hours in the fields (Well, OK, probably a total of 10), Jenni came back! Yay for the end of Jobies for the summer! Now, she's got an apartment and everything up in Moscow so we don't have to stay apart during this school year. That ought to be nice.
Anyway, work's been quite nice, and I get a raise here in about two weeks. Other than that, I'm spending my Fourth of July on top of my folk's roof re-siding the house, and other fun stuff. It's quite exhausting but it supposedly builds character.
Happy Statehood Day!

10:36 am - Fence Building
Man, summer's going by fast! It's been a little over a month since the end of school, and I finally got my grades and stuff (I did fairly well, I think), soI guess I still get to bea law student. I'm in the middle of helping my dad remodel our back yard. Last week, I was digging post holes for fences, and chipping through about two feet of concrete to get out the old fence post foundation. Not good times. Anyway, this weekend's project is to fix the rest of the back yard fence, as well as start on the siding on the west side of the house. Good times indeed.
Last night I had a party at my house for the people I worked with. Pretty good stuff, although I lost 5 bucks at poker. Plus I held my liquor, which is also a good thing.
Oh, and I finally figured out how to post on MySpace; I'm too used to LiveJournal's format, so it took me a while to figure out what the hell was going on here.

04:50 pm - Another Yotie in the Family
Well, Mizz Kroll graduated from the good old A C of I, and as soon as she becomes a Sonnichsen, she'll be the third 'Yote with the last name Sonnichsen. Yay for graduation!
My gift to her is just another secret mission to somewhere where she'll have fun for a weekend. I can't divulge any secrets here because she'll find out, and it would ruin the suprise. It's always nice to see her squirm when I'm conspiring against her :-P

07:34 pm - Government Work is a Good Thing
Well, I'm back to my usual schedule for the summer driving around to fields, checking to make sure that there's no diseases in them (which there never are) and enjoying life away from Moscow. This weekend I go to Salt Lake with the Jobies to visit the Shriner's hospital and then go to Lagoon, which should also be fun.
Other than that, I've got nothing to talk about. I'm still trying to buckle down and do the law review article, but my will power has seriously gone down. I'll probably read most of the articles on the way to SLC.
